6. Circumcision, Sabbaths and sacrifices

Many claim that because tithing was before the Law it is still required of New Testament believers ...after the Law.

This is easily refuted in looking at the parallel arguments to tithing  ...  those for circumcision or Sabbaths or sacrifices (except that circumcision, sabbaths and sacrifices actually were pre-Mosaic principles)

Circumcision was a covenant set by God (Gen 17:9-14)...while tithing of income or assets or money is NEVER taught or commanded anywhere in the bible before the LAW!

Note        God described circumcision as an everlasting covenant (Gen 17) ..... and also the Sabbath (Exodus 31:16-17)

(Sacrifices and clean and unclean foods were also practiced before the Law...and included in the Law...and are also no longer applicable as they were ALL only types and shadows fulfilled in Christ)

On what basis could we assume that only 'tithing' carries through the cross? ...as some deceivers claim.

Acts 15:5        The Pharisees stood up and said ‘The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the Law of Moses’

Acts 15:28      But the apostles, elders and Holy Spirit said…..

‘It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: that you abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from meat strangled and from sexual immorality’

Note that in the same way as circumcision and Sabbaths came to an end so also would any supposed requirement to 'Tithe' come to an end ... even if it had been a Pre-Mosaic principle

Gal 5:1-14        There is good reason to see this text as applying equally to any requirement of the Law be it of circumcision (or tithing)

Vs 1                 ‘Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made you free’

Note                I do not know anyone who would describe tithing as a liberty….it is almost always taught as a law which results in bondage

Vs 2                ‘if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value at all

Vs 3                 ‘again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to keep the whole of the Law’

Note                Christians should seriously consider claiming to tithe (They should rather 'give as they are led to do') because tithing was clearly as much part of the Law as circumcision and if, as argued by some, also a pre-mosaic principle neither circumcision (or tithing) nor uncircumcision (or not tithing) mean anything (Gal 6:15) ...ie they are IRRELLEVANT to God

Note                Tithing done in an effort to earn the blessing of God is a demonstration of a LACK OF FAITH in the completed work of Christ for us. Tithing to 'please God' is a worthless work of the FLESH....our faith in Jesus ALONE is what pleases our Father....and not our 'works of the Law.

GOD WANTS US TO GIVE AS LED BY HIS SPIRIT…..(Gal 5:25)
